REPORT OF ILLEGAL LOGGING NEAR ZAGOUÉ, COTE D’IVOIRE

A report of illegal logging near the village of Zagoue, Cote d’Ivoire, in Perimetre d’Exploitation Forestiere 63780, held by the logging company Société de Sciage et de Moulure de Côte d’Ivoire (SMCI).  The report provides evidence that:

  • the customary rights of the local community have not been respected
  • a local sacred forest has been illegally logged
  • logging has illegally taken place near a local water source
  • logging has illegally taken place within the agreed community buffer zone
  • local touristic sites have been damaged
