FLEGT-VPA Cameroon European Union: Overview of 6 years of implementation
SAILD and GDA analyse the implementation of the FLEGT-VPA in Cameroon in a publication entitled « FLEGT-VPA Cameroon-European Union: Overview of 6 years of implementation ».
This publication first describes the difficulties and obstacles encountered in the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between Cameroon and European Union. These include conflicts of interest in the implementation of SIGIF 2, inconsistency in legal texts, inadequacy of legality grids to the context of forest logging and ineffective FLEGT implementing bodies.
Proposals are then made to further the implementation of FLEGT-VPA: the involvement of CSOs and the private sector in the development of SIGIF 2, the establishment of a permanent facilitation of the process and the promulgation of the new forestry code.
