VPA progress in Liberia under Presdient Boakai

The Boakai Administration in Liberia was inaugurated on 22 January 2024, following six years of growing lawlessness under the Administration of George Weah. This change of government led to a change in leadership in government agencies including the Forestry Development Authority (FDA). Shortly afterwards President Joseph Boakai appointed Rudolph Merab as the Managing Director of the FDA.

The new government has renewed with progress on the VPA, in stark contrast to the previous administration. This renewed progress can be seen across ministries, including the FDA, Ministry of Justice, Liberia Revenue Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, and Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The rate of community payments of logging revenues has increased, enforcement action has increased, system governance has improved and transparency and accountability mechanisms have improved.
