Liberia 2006: The moratorium on logging concessions, the local demand for timber and unemployed ex-combatants combine to provide a steady supply of illegal timber, felled and converted to planks within the forest.

The European Commission Development Directorate - DG Dev leads the Commission's website information on FLEGT, so this site has the latest FLEGT / VPA news items. They have a dedicated FLEGT page which includes the Commission's FLEGT Briefing Notes in all major European languages.

The European Commission Environment Directorate - DG Env is also key to FLEGT and other international environmental agreements (as well as working on environmental policy within Europe). Their FLEGT page gives a short introduction.

Finland

 

The EU FLEGT Facility supports the Commission and EU Member States in implementing the EU FLEGT Action Plan, especially Voluntary Partnership Agreements. Established in 2007, the Facility is hosted and managed by the European Forest Institute (EFI) and financed by the Commission and Member States. The Facility is working with a growing number of partner countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In Asia, the Facility executes a Regional Asia FLEGT Support Programme to support the implementation of the EU FLEGT Action Plan in the Asian region.
