Joint Statement on Guyana-EU VPA, July 2012

In July 2012 the Government of Guyana and the EU issued a joint statement in which both parties agreed to initiate VPA negotiations by the end of 2012, with the aim of ratifying the agreement by September 2015.

Forest Peoples Programme & Rainforest Foundation US press release  on a controversial court decision that favours miners over indigenous peoples. The ruling sets a negative precedent and exposes the lack of adequate protections for indigenous lands in Guyana, a situation which will only be exacerbated as pressures from mining, logging, and carbon projects grow.
