Liberia 2006: The head of the Forest Development Authority described the low-tech industry as "illegal but necessary' and an unofficial tax system operates on the transportation of timber, meaning it needs to be unpacked and packed at checkpoints.

FLEGT in Liberia

Liberia had its first formal negotiations session in March 2010. Issues like the legality definition and the Legality Assurance System were on the agenda. However, the negotiations have come under threat by NGO data showing serious breaches of various laws in the newly appointed concessions.
