Latest situation

In May 2009, the Republic of Congo became the second country to sign a VPA with the EU with the full support of civil society actors. Negotiations lasted less than one year (June 2008 - May 2009). When the process began, concerns were raised about whether the country’s nascent civil society would be able to counterbalance the power of the forestry industry and ensure the VPA led to meaningful improvement of (forest) governance.

L’Observation indépendante des forêts (OIF) est une exigence de l’APV/FLEG. Alfred Nkodia, membre de la Plateforme de Gestion Durable de Forêts fait le bilan et soulève les faiblesses, leçons tirées et présente les perspectives dans une note présentée lors d'une conférence internationale à Accra (Ghana).

Plateforme de gestion durable des forêts sur l'état d'avancement de l'implémentation de l'APV au Congo

Dans une présentation power point la Plateforme de gestion durable des forêts au Congo (PGDF) évalue l'avancement de l'implémentation de l'AVP. Elle observe notmment une faible implication de la Société civile dans l'élaboration du projet du nouveau code forestie. La présentation a été partagée avec le Secretariat Technique (réunion du 22.04) et le Comité de Mise en Oeuvre de l'APV (réunions du 29 et 30.04).

Africans Unite against New Form of Colonialism: No REDD Network Born

Outraged by the rampant land grabs and neocolonialism of REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest degradation), Africans at the World Social Forum in Tunisia took the historic decision to launch the No REDD in Africa Network and join the global movement against REDD.

Indignées par les accaparements de terres rampantes et le néocolonialisme de REDD (Réduction des émissions dues la déforestation et de la dégradation des forêts), les Africains lors du Forum Social Mondial en Tunisie ont pris la décision historique d’instaurer le Réseau contre REDD en Afrique de rejoindre le mouvement mondial contre REDD.

Le Règlement Bois est entré en vigueur le 3 mars 2013 et rend illégale la mise sur le marché
européen de bois abattu en violation des lois en vigueur dans les pays d'origine du bois.

An investigative report  reveals impacts on forests and local people of biggest palm oil plantations in Congo Basin (Focus on three major palm oil projects in the Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Gabon)

 

RF UK reports in a new publication "Seeds of Destruction" that half a million hectares of industrial oil palm expansion projects are getting underway in the Congo Basin rainforest, which will result in a fivefold increase in the area of active large-scale palm plantations in the region.
